Dredging The Past

I’ve been asked by the adoption agency to provide names of people I worked with at two places I left 15 years ago. The reason they’re interested in them is because both involved working with, or around, children. On the registration of interest form there was a section asking about jobs we held that involved working with children or vulnerable adults. I had two that I thought might be relevant, one as a swimming pool life guard where I interacted a lot with children, and one as a science technician at my old secondary school. Fortunately I am still in contact

Information Overload

Good news everyone! We’ve been accepted into the adoption process. What’s more, the adoption agency actually managed to reply to us within the maximum time-frame they had allotted themselves. Now the process begins in earnest. Welcome to Stage 1 of the Adoption Approval Process. We had been expecting a phone call to confirm whether or not we had been accepted by the adoption agency, the form implied it and so did the social worker we spoke to, I even chased them up via email to make sure they had received our form (still no reply to that), but in the

Waiting with the Dogs

Working Day 3 of waiting for a response from the adoption agency (it might be 4 but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt with regards to Royal Mail delivering the form). I thought I’d post some details about our dogs that the social worker that we spoke to seemed to take exception to us having. Our youngest dog, we’ll call him F, is just over 2 years old and we got him together from a puppy just before we moved into our current house and he is a working cocker spaniel. He’s a lot needier than our other dog,

Sleepless Thoughts

I had a night of no sleep whatsoever, too many thoughts of adoption keeping me awake! The books I ordered arrived yesterday, and reading through some of the stories in them it occurred to me that there is very little material on the new two stage adoption process which got implemented last year. So I thought I’d go back a step and describe what we’ve done so far. We had talked about having children pretty much right from the beginning of our relationship, and 2014 was the year we had decided we would start looking into it properly. I found

A New Chapter

Well… I’ve never been nervous about posting a letter before, but then I don’t think I’ve ever posted something which will change our lives in such a significant way as this will. Today’s the day we officially register our interest in starting the process of being approved for adoption. That’s a bit of a mouthful, so maybe I should just say today’s the day we enter the adoption process. Our form has been posted with a proof of posted obtained from the local post office, and now we wait for a ‘maximum of 5 working days’ to get a response. We are

Starting to start our family

I’ve never really thought about writing a blog before, mostly because I haven’t really had anything worthwhile to write about, until now at least. My partner and I are a gay couple and we are about to start the process of applying to adopt. I have always wanted to have children, but had pretty much given up on the idea because I am gay, I know in this day and age there are options available for having biological children but something never really sat right for me with those, so we have discounted them as a possibility. After looking into it some, we
